Lutheran 38, Foothills Christian 22

Friday Knight Lights turned into a joust, with the Knights from Lutheran high school ultimately knocking Foothills Christian Knights off their high horse. Sophomore quarterback Christian Dufresne threw for six touchdowns on homecoming night for Lutheran to lead them to a 38-22 victory.

Lutheran went for most of their fourth downs, including a 4th and one on the first drive of the game. Sophomore running back Maurice McFalls burst through the line for a 14-yard gain and on the next play Dufresne hit sophomore wide receiver Tyler Pinuelas on a screen for a 46-yard touchdown and 8-0 lead.

Foothills junior quarterback Wyatt Basson responded with 53-yard strike of his own to Taylor Bankhead. After a fumbled pinned the Lutheran offense on their own one-yard line, Dufresne botched a high snap and was tackled in the end-zone for a safety to give Foothills a 9-8 lead.

Defresne led the Knights right back down the field, connecting with senior receiver Tobin Linahan for 42-yards and finishing off the drive with a 6-yard back corner fade to Linahan. Foothills set up their opponent deep with a missed snap on a punt that lead to another Dufresne touchdown, this time a 11-yard score to James Watts III for a 20-9 lead. A screen pass for a touchdown right before the half from Dufresne to junior receiver Orlando Gunn gave Lutheran a 26-9 lead at the break.

Basson tried to bring his team back with a 12-yard touchdown on a QB draw to cut the lead to 26-16, but Dufresne responded with a 26-yard touchdown pass of his own, this time to senior tight-end Mohammed Al-Asady. Each team would tack on an extra touchdown, resulting in a 38-22 final. Foothills (0-6) will go on the road to Tri-City Christian still thirsty for their first win, while Lutheran (1-4) will go on the road to Calvin Christian feeling confident.
