Jersey Mike’s City Game of the Week: Clairemont Chieftains 14, Francis Parker Lancers 7

The Jersey Mike’s City Game of the Week did not disappoint! It was a competitive battle, to say the least as the Clairemont Chieftains were victorious over the Francis Parker Lancers.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Chieftains were led by Rich Kohl who came up with a huge interception in the 1st quarter which proceeded to an offensive score.

The most impressive play of the game also came in the 1st quarter when the Clairemont kicker, Edyel Morales, executed an onside kick, recovered by Donovan Fitzgerald. Due to that play, Fitzgerald went on to score two plays later.

Although it was a low scoring game, the Chieftains earned the win as Griffin Catarius threw for 120 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 47 yards which led the Chieftains rushing attack. The efforts by Catarius earned him the title of “Jersey Mike’s Player of the Game.” As a reward for his accomplishments, he received a Jersey Mike’s hat along with two free sub coupons to use at participating Jersey Mike’s locations. When asked who he would share the coupon with, Catarius responded, “If I can, I’d share it with every single one of these guys, they deserve it a lot more than I do.”

It was a successful week for the Chieftains as they improved to 2-0, but that is not to take away notice from the efforts put forth by Francis Parker. The Lancers fought hard and will look to recover next week as they take on the San Diego Cavers.

PREVIEW: I hope you are all ready for Week 2 of the Prep Pigskin Report! On the show this week, we will be featuring 30 high school football games from all around San Diego County. One game to look forward to is the Jersey Mike’s City Game of the Week; Francis Parker Lancers vs. Clairemont Chieftains. The game will be hosted by the Chieftains at 7 pm on Friday, September 1st.

Last week, Francis Parker lost 40-3 to the Kearny Komets, but this week they will be looking to bounce back. On the other spectrum, The Clairemont Chieftains beat the Orange Glen Patriots 34-0. As Clairemont seemed to not have any issues with the Patriots, it will be interesting to see how head coach, Manny Diaz, has prepared his team this week to take on their non-conference opponents. Be sure to look out for the Chieftains running back, Devon Rensfield, as last week he rushed for 114 yards on 23 carries.
