Bishops Knights 22, Grossmont Foothillers 13

The Bishop Knight’s pulled off one of the biggest wins in school history last night against the Grossmont Foothillers. The Knights prevailed 22-13, behind the all around play of Mozes Mooney, who barely left the field, playing offense, defense and special teams.

Mooney finished with six receptions for 62 yards and two TD’s, plus he was 2-for-2 passing for 55 yards. He also sealed the victory for Bishop’s with an interception late in the 4th quarter to dash Grossmont’s hopes of a come back. For the the Knight’s it was a huge confidence boost to start the season. It’s the first win for the school over an Open Division team.

For the Foothillers, they switched quarterbacks between Jamie Odom who threw for 102 yards and Dylan Smith who passed for 85 yards respectively. Shevell Sterling carried the ground attack for the Foothillers, rushing 20 times for 93 yards, including a 2-yard TD run.

The Knights will travel to Patrick Henry next week to try and keep the winning streak going, while Grossmont will look to bounce back as they host Olympian.

The Bishop’s Knights, who are the defending San Diego Section CIF Division 3  Champions, will start the 2017 season by traveling to Grossmont High School this Friday night.

The Knights finished last season with an overall record of 14-1, going undefeated in the San Diego Section. They will be led by dynamic Senior WR Mozes Mooney.

The Grossmont Foothillers will not be an easy opponent however. They finished the 2016 season strong and just came up short in the San Diego Section Open Division Playoffs, losing in the first round to Mission Hills 49-48.

The Foothillers can be explosive on offense and feature a dual threat with Senior WR Josh Moala and Senior RB Shevell Sterling.
