Ramona 45, Grossmont 27
The Grossmont Foothillers battled to the very end against the Ramona Bulldogs during Week 3 of the 2014 varsity football season, but unfortunately walked away defeated 45 – 27. Before kickoff, Ramona honored their younger community athletes via Pop Warner night: the young football players got to run through the inflatable tunnel with their high school counterparts and the youth cheerleaders were allowed to participate with the Bulldog varsity cheer team throughout the game’s entirety. With the onset of quarter one, the Bulldogs began to defend their home field to the fullest – even scoring their first touchdown before 60 seconds had a chance to escape the clock. The Foothillers answered back quickly, also getting the ball in the end zone during their first game possession.
The scoreboard began to be slated towards Ramona by the beginning of the second quarter, however, after the Bulldogs pulled off two more touchdowns and a field goal. Even though the Foothillers exuded stamina and perseverance, it was not enough to stop the Bulldogs from maintaining a two-score lead until the very end. One notable moment in the third quarter was when Bulldog Garrett Binkley fielded a punt on the run for a 72-yard return and a touchdown one minute into the second half, pushing Ramona’s lead 31 – 14. Although Binkley’s run was highly impressive, the stat leader of the night was senior Bulldog Brandon Gansch, running a total of 218 yards and had 32 carries, alongside his touchdown.
