Helix Highlanders 42, Eastlake Titans 7

On Eastlake’s Staff Appreciation night, the Helix Highlanders took down the Titans by a score of 42-7.

The game started out in the Titans’ favor.  Eastlake intercepted the Highlanders and recovered a fumble all within the first 5 minutes of the game.

But Helix’s defense answered back with a fumble recovery of their own, this one by Scott Young for a touchdown.  The score was 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The scoring continued for the Highlanders as they opened up the second quarter with a 65 yard TD run by Ezekiel Noa.  After another Helix score, the Titans put some points on the board.  Alfredo Garcia threw a 14 yard TD pass to Jae Vitin for the TD.  It was 21-7 heading into the half.

Despite a messy start in the beginning of the night, the Highlanders’ offense began to click in the second half.  Ezekiel Noa racked up another rushing TD, this one from 4 yards out.  And QB Carson Baker called his own number for a 58 yard run to set up a 1 yard score by Dayon Reynolds.

One last TD in the 4th quarter on a 13 yard TD run by Mugen Blue officially put Helix up 42-7.  The Highlanders walk away with another win under their belt.

Eastlake will travel to Madison next week to take on the Warhawks.  Helix is going to make the trip to Cathedral Catholic for a top 3 matchup against the Dons.

PREVIEW: This Friday the Red Jackets will head out to Eastlake High School to watch the Titans face off with the Helix Highlanders.

This will be Helix’s first game against a San Diego team this season.  They lost to Timpview from Utah in the first week and beat Clayton Valley Charter from Concord last week.  Despite the 1-1 record, the Highlanders are still a top 3 football team in San Diego.  Equipped with a new head coach and new starters on both sides of the ball, Helix looks to continue the success they had last season when they won the San Diego Section Open Division Championship.

The Eastlake Titans are coming off of a big win against El Toro from Lake Forest, the final was 41-21.  The Titans put up some big numbers on offense and special teams thanks to QB’s Alfredo Garcia 48 yard TD run and Micah Pietila-Wiggs taking it 89 yards to the house on a punt return.  With their first win of the season under their belt, the Titans look to keep the momentum moving them forward into this week’s game against the Highlanders.

The last time these teams played each other was Week 2 last year, Helix walked away with a 56-7 win.  Game time is 7 p.m. this Friday at Eastlake High School.  Catch the highlights from this game and all others around San Diego every Friday at 10:30 p.m., only on KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report.
