Madison Warhawks 48, La Jolla Vikings 7
The La Jolla Vikings went home with a loss Friday against the Madison Warhawks (48-7).
La Jolla struggled early on in the game with Trevor Kelly throwing two interceptions that would set up two Madison TD’s. The Vikings fought for every yard they got, and even though they had 55 yards worth of penalties they still made it on the board.
Madison came out ready to play and put on a show for the 2015 Homecoming crowd. Starting with two back to back TD runs by Eric Buchanan for 17 yards. Next up would be Shaheed Madyun to Brandon Lewis for the tip-toe into the end zone TD pass. To end the Warhawks’ 1st quarter scoring would be Shaheed Madyun with the quarterback keep for the 35 yard TD run. Madison would score twice before the running clock would expire.
La Jolla will go on to play Scripps Ranch next week, and Madison will play a non-league game against Serra.
PREVIEW: Week 9 of high school football is upon us, and with its arrival brings a Western League match up between the Vikings of La Jolla and the Warhawks of Madison.
Last week La Jolla had no games, which gave the Vikings an opportunity to take the heartbreaking 1 point loss to the Buccaneers , and use it to fuel their fire for the upcoming game. Considering the fact that Mission Bay is still undefeated, AND the game between the two teams was the closest contest Mission Bay’s had all year, the Vikings have what it takes to be a great team. La Jolla is a fast striking team that comes out swinging, but in order to close out ball games, they have got to keep the fire. Undoubtedly with a week off and much preparation the Vikings should be geared up and ready to go against a pretty good team.
As for the Madison Warhawks, they are sitting pretty after their shut out win against Point Loma (48-0). Be on the lookout for the duo in Carter and Lewis as their connectedness grows on the field, the two have become quite the pair. Not only are the Warhawks a threat in the air, expect them to find holes in the defense as well. Last week Junior RB Erick Buchanan rushed for 130 yards on 10 carries, Madison definitely has the triple threat.
Friday’s 6:30 kickoff will be interesting to see. How will La Jolla bounce back after a loss and a week off, will Madison still be soaring high after a week 8 shutout? Tune in to the PPR at 10:30 only on KUSI to find out!
