Lincoln Hornets 47, Mission Bay Buccaneers 20

Lincoln High School floated like a butterfly and stung like a Hornet as they beat the Mission Bay Buccaneers, 47-20.

On the first play of the game, Hornets’ Lamont Glenn returned the opening kickoff to give the Hornets the immediate 7-0 lead.  Following two interceptions, both made by Kevin Banks, Lincoln scored again on a 65 yard touchdown pass from Asante Hartzog to George McCorley.

Before the half, Lincoln would extend their lead again to 21-0 with a 7 yard touchdown run by Glenn.

Mission Bay got on the board in the second half, thanks to a touchdown run by Kenyon Sims going for 3 yards.  Sims would go to the house again, this time from 36 yards out, bringing the score to 27-14 with Lincoln leading.

That’s when RB Micah Edwards turned on the jets.  He had back to back rushing touchdowns for 42 yards and 34 yards, respectively.  He added another 63 yard score before the night ended.

The final score was 47-20, Lincoln.  The Hornets’ defense had 7 turnovers and Micah Edwards had 139 rushing yards with 4 TD’s.

Next week, Lincoln will host Christian High School for their Homecoming game.  Mission Bay will travel to face St. Augustine.

PREVIEW: Week 7’s assignment will take the Red Jackets and this week’s Pigskin Idol to Mission Bay High School where the Buccaneers will take on the Lincoln Hornets.

Lincoln (3-2) is coming off of a 26-6 loss to Otay Ranch in last week’s National City Mile of Cars South Bay Game of the Week.  The Hornets didn’t get on the board until the last few minutes of the game and their offense was limited to just 6 rushing yards on the night.  So look for the Hornets to come out with motivation to make up for last week’s loss.  Also, RB Micah Edwards will be featured on this week’s Carroll’s Corner segment.

Mission Bay (4-2) had a bye last week.  In Week 5, the Bucs beat the Kearny Komets, the final score was 58-7.  In that game, the Komets started off with a 72 yard pick 6 within the first few minutes.  But after that, it was all Mission Bay.  Look for the Bucs to try to keep up the momentum from that win and carry it into Friday night.

Game time is 6 p.m. this Friday at Mission Bay.  Watch this week’s Pigskin Idol read the highlights from this game on KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report, Friday at 10:30 p.m.
