Steele Canyon Cougars 36, Mira Mesa Marauders 22

This was a game with a fairly surprising outcome. This week, the Mira Mesa Marauders made a visit to the Steele Canyon Cougars, and unfortunately went home with their heads down.

The game began with Mira Mesa hitting the board first with Noah Tumblin throwing a 7 yard touchdown pass to Artyom Harr, but they missed the 2-point conversion making the score 6-0. Steele Canyon struck back with Thomas Fishburne throwing a 12 yard touchdown pass to Jordan Anderson and taking the lead at 7-6. The Cougars eventually regained possession, and Fishburne threw another touchdown pass to Anderson, this time for 54 yards. Steele Canyon regained possession once more and the Marauders responded with a sack for a loss of five yards. However, this didn’t stop Fishburne from throwing a 33 yard touchdown pass to Perry Steele. Mira Mesa responded to this with Jalen Taite rushing for a 7 yard touchdown along with a 2-point conversion making the score 21-14. However, the Cougars were quick to get on the board again with Fishburne rushing for a 9 yard touchdown which made the score 28-14 at the end of the first half.

When the second half kicked-off, the Marauders stepped up on the defensive side which resulted in a turnover on downs and Noah Tumblin rushing for a 13 yard touchdown which brought the score pretty close. But Steele Canyon came back with Kenneth Watson rushing for a 38 yard touchdown. The final score of this game came out to be 36-22 in Steele Canyon’s favor.

The Cougars’ quarterback Thomas Fishburne had himself a good night with 3 touchdown passes and 1 rushing touchdown. After winning this game, the Cougars are now headed to round 2 of Division 2 playoffs against Bishop’s.

Week 12 is here which means that it is now time for the playoffs to kickoff, and one game to catch this week is the Mira Mesa Marauders playing against the Steele Canyon Cougars.

Last week the Cougars were successful in sealing their place in round one after beating El Capitan with a final score of 28-7. This was a big confidence builder for the senior Cougars as the game against El Capitan was senior night. Senior quarterback Thomas Fishburne seemed fairly confident and ready to take home a win. The Cougars are currently 6-4 overall and 3-2 in league.

The Marauders have been fairly successful as well so far this season. However, last week Mira Mesa took an unfortunate loss against Madison with a final score of 48-14. Junior quarterback Noah Tumblin has achieved 1,925 yards so far this season along with 716 rushing yards while senior linebacker Noel Sanchez leads the defense with 56 total tackles. Even though the Marauders have had a few losses, they still have a chance to take home the Division 2 title.

The Cougars are currently ranked 6th in Division 2 while the Marauders are ranked 10th in Division 2. The game will be held this Friday November 10th at 7:00 PM at Steele Canyon High School. If you happen to miss the game, the highlights will be shown Friday night at 10:30 on KUSI. Also follow @redjacketarmy on Twitter and Instagram for scoring updates.
