Preview: Mission Viejo vs. Oceanside

Oceanside High School will host Mission Viejo this Friday. It will the second game of a double header. The 2014 “Honor Bowl” will showcase these two Southern California powerhouses along with other top teams in the nation. It is part of a football weekend at the school by the sea. The games bring awareness to the problems war veterans face during the transition back to regular life. It is a great opportunity to come see great programs square off. 8 p.m. is the kickoff time.

The Pirates are seeking to advance on their win last week. St. Augustine fell to Oceanside 34-28. Coach John Carroll’s team is stacked with stars on the offensive side of the ball. The Pirates’ attack is led by Senior QB Matthew Romero. He sliced the Saints with 271 yards through the air. Johnny Arzola is a dual threat, he can attack on the ground and bring down the ball for big gains.

Mission Viejo is looking to bounce back after a loss to Liberty High School of Bakersfield. The Diablos are no strangers to San Diego teams, they have played great games against the section. Mission Viejo is a perennial California powerhouse. The “Honor Bowl” will continue Saturday, but this bout will prove to be the highlight of the weekend.
