Preview: Morse Tigers at Chula Vista Spartans

Spartans will rally together at Chula Vista high school in defense of their home turf against the Tigers from Morse, who are on the prowl for their second straight win.

Chula Vista (1-4) has had their share of heartbreak in the early going, falling 35-33 to Hilltop and to Castle Park, 12-6, last week. Spartan head coach Daryl Butterfield said that the boys and the coaching staff were fired up to get back on the field.

“We’re looking to get to get back what we do on the ground and get a win,” he said. “It’s going to tough to slowdown number six from Morse, he is real good.”

Martell Irby wears number 6 for the Tigers, the sophomore running back/defensive back plays both sides of the ball with his older brother Daquirae Irby, who plays wide-receiver as well as defensive back.

Chula Vista will also look to control the ground game behind the combo backfield of senior Raymond Ortiz and junior Sergio Figueroa. This is the Spartans last non-conference match-up, as the schedule will take a tough turn in Metro-Mesa section.

Morse will look to build off of last week’s 32-15 win over Central and take the show on the road to the “Spartan Coliseum” this Friday in a quest for gridiron glory.
