Week 10: Del Norte Nighthawks 35, Mount Carmel Sun Devils 13
Another beautiful night of football for PPR. The Del Norte Nighthawks took home the win against Mount Carmel Sun Devils, 35-13.
The student section for Del Norte, also known as “The Flock”, made sure the game was hyped and full of energy. Also, Homecoming Court for the Nighthawks was successful with candy, chants, and overall school spirit.
The Sun Devils stood their ground and kept fighting.
Quarterback Carson Taumoepeau targeted senior Ty Virgin for two touchdowns. Virgin’s first touchdown consisted of 30 rushing yards and the second was eight rushing yards.
The defense worked vigorously to keep the Nighthawks away, but the Hawks flew right through them. These boys put in the work, and maybe next week will be a different outcome.
The Nighthawks dominated tonight’s game.
Quarterback Nolan Booher, Jamie Meoli, Manai Hazlett were the three key players.
Booher ran in the first touchdown, leading the Nighthawks to the lead, 6-0. He targeted all four touchdowns and set his team up for victory.
Meoli came into the game head strong. He recovered a fumble in the first quarter, which led to his first touchdown in the next play of the game, 13-0. Meoli scored a total of two touchdowns with an accumulation of 38 rushing yards.
As of today, Hazlett has over 1,000 rushing yards this season. On top of that, he scored the winning touchdown with 2:26 left in the 4th quarter and closed the game with a total of 164 rushing yards.
The Nighthawks’ overall record is now 5-4 and the Sun Devils’ is 0-9. Week 10 was a hit and we glide into Week 11.
Last week didn’t go as planned for most of our PPR games, but this week is a different story. Clear skies, heat, and no rain on my watch, fingers crossed.
Speaking of heat, this upcoming week we have the Mount Carmel Sun Devils against the Del Norte Nighthawks. The conference game is scheduled for kickoff at 7 p.m. at Del Norte’s home field. We have Del Norte’s Homecoming on Friday as well, so buckle up for a night of fun.
The head coach for the Division IV Nighthawks is Leigh Cole. The Nighthawks have an overall record of 4-4 and are fourth in the Palomar League.
The Sun Devils’ overall record is 0-8. This week could be the week the Sun Devils surprise us and bring home a win. Mt. Carmel beat the Nighthawks last season, 28-20.
Most of Sun Devils key players last year were seniors, but rising junior Ty Virgin could surprise us with more rushing yards and sacks on defense. They have something to prove this game and we’ll see what coach John Anderson has up his sleeve.
Nighthawks senior quarterback Nolan Booher has 135 total yards. Also, middle linebacker Jamie Meoli had 76 all-purpose yards: 50 rushing and 26 receiving, including a touchdown. It will be a game to watch. Don’t miss out.
