National City Mile of Cars South Bay Game of the Week: Otay Ranch Mustangs 27, Eastlake Titans 14
The Week 8 South Bay Game of the Week features the Eastlake Titans playing host to the Otay Ranch Mustangs. Both teams enter this night’s contest at 2-5.
The Mustangs are hoping to make history as they have never beaten Eastlake in the 14 years these schools have been playing one another….and if the beginning of the game is a harbinger of what is to come, it looks like this could be a history- making night.
The Mustangs get on the board in the first quarter when big Devin Lloyd, who is 6’5", 220 pounds, intercepts a Titan pass and takes it in for the score.
At the start of the second quarter Zamudio hooks up with Zeek Cruz for an 83-yard score touchdown pass.
The Titans quickly retaliate with touchdown passes thrown by Alfredo Garcia to Carlos Loaiza and Evan Forrage respectively to tie the game at 14.
Start of the fourth quarter, Carlos Loaiza intercepts an Otay Ranch pass and runs it in for the pick-six, but it’s called back because of an illegal Titan block. That then sets up the chance for the Mustangs to take the lead courtesy of a short run by Gus Espiritu.
Then minutes later Devin Lloyd with his second pick-six of the night to make final score 27-14. He would finish the game with four interceptions.
The win for Otay Ranch means for the first time in history….that is the fourteen years since the school opened…they beat Eastlake!
