Oceanside Pirates 39, San Pasqual Eagles 12

In a night where the Eagles of San Pasqual we’re ready to take on the vaunted Oceanside Pirates. The Eagles took the field in those spiffy yellow rain jackets to Judas Priests song United. 

First quarter was a a bit slow until halfway through the quarter when Oceanside was able to get a running start and block the Eagles punt attempt and scoop the ball up and score the extra point was blocked Pirates lead early 6-0. 

2nd quarter the pirates march down the field and   quarterback Max Shuffer faked the hand off and did not see anyone open and took himself and scores from 5 yards out and took a big hit from 3 Eagles at the goal line 2 point conversion was no good 12-0. The Eagles now looked to move the ball they cough up the ball and the Pirates take over. That is until Oceansides quarterback Max Shuffer dropped back scrambled forward and losses the ball and San Pasquals Juan Jauche is able to scoop up the loose ball and scamper down the sideline to cut the lead in half 12-6 Pirates. 

3rd quarter kicks off and the Eagles go on a 80

yard drive capped off with a 23 yard pass from quarterback Nick Hurst to Sam Serrato extra point was blocked to tie the game at 12. 

The Pirates must have been given a big halftime speech by coach Rodriguez as they would not be stopped going on a drive of their own with Shuffer finding a wide open Puka Kaleopatuisee for a 23 yard touchdown extra point was good Oceanside retook the lead 19-12. San Pasquals nest drive would stall out mid field and get a punt off and downed deep in Oceanside territory. 

Max Shuffer was not afraid to show off his arm on the night as he throws up a prayer to Jake Gerardi who makes a fantastic catch while being interfered with for a 63 yard score Pirates pad the lead 25-12. 

Nick Hurst would throw incomplete pass on 4th down to give the ball back to the Pirates. Max Shuffer had himself a night after moving the ball down to the 5 yard line he scrambled left stiff armed the Eagles defender on his way in to the endzone for his 4th touchdown of the night and the route is on 32-12. 

The Pirates would add another touchdown late to increase the lead to 39-12, the Eagles would fumble for the 4th time on the night and Oceanside was run the clock out and beat the Eagles of San Pasqual. 

Next week the Pirates will host La Costa Canyon and the Eagles will travel to Rancho Buena Vista.

PREVIEW: With the season drawing close to an end and the playoffs aright around the corner this week’s game takes us to San Pasqual High School where the Fighting Eagles will host the Oceanside Pirates in a non-league game. Both teams are coming off close losses as the Eagles lost on the road at Valley Center 13-6, and the Pirates were upset at by the Falcons of Torrey Pines 32-28 at home. 

The (4-3) Eagles of San Pasqual made that tough road trip up to Valley Center where the fog rolled as the second half started and after both teams were neck in neck till the 4th quarter when Brock Moffitt made a big defensive stand to stop the Eagles on 4th down and help seal victory for the Jaguars. They now have a tough game at home were they have not lost at home 3-0, and 1-3 on the road so coach Corley will look for the Eagles to swarm and protect they’re home turf. 

Meanwhile the (5-2) Oceanside Pirates will to avenge they’re tough loss verse Torrey Pines as both teams demonstrated a strong defense and motivated by offense but in the 4th quarter when Ocenasides Max Shuffer fumbled the ball and that was the game. At (5-2) the Pirates are 1-2 at home and 4-0 on the road and coach Rodriguez will look to continue that streak on the road.

These two teams faced each other last season with the Pirates winning decisively 30-8 will the Eagles be able to force a different outcome be sure to tune into KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report for all the highlights Friday night at 10:30 p.m.
