Mira Mesa Marauders 42, Patrick Henry Patriots 0

With much excitement and anticipation behind the opening night’s kickoff at Mira Mesa, fans poured into the stadium. The Mira Mesa Marauders overtook the Patrick Henry Patriots, 42-0.

The Marauders got a jump on the Patriots, Marauders quarterback Josh Poston handed off the ball to Elijah Lynch for an impressive touchdown run and Ric Domingo’s good kick, making it 7-0 Mira Mesa. The Marauders took advantage of this momentum and managed to consistently stay on the scoreboard.

Mira Mesa’s Elijah Lynch made sure to be apart of 3 touchdown plays tonight. Lynch made a crucial 5-yard touchdown run and Ric Domingo’s good kick made it 13-0, giving Mira Mesa the edge over the Patriots in the second quarter.

The Patriots quarterback, Ethan Gomez, made a trying attempt at driving the ball down the field. Gomez had a 20-yard run making a first down, but the Patriots seemed to have trouble getting past the Marauders defense.

The Marauders still made sure to stay on the scoreboard, by the 3rd quarter they were able to make it 35-0. Keeping up with the theme of consistency, Marauders running back Javelle Brown made a notable 44-yard touchdown run generating a final score of 42-0.

It seems like the Patriots couldn’t break through the Marauders defense or defend their explosive offense.

This week kicks off a highly anticipated Week 1; the Patrick Henry Patriots will be facing off with the Mira Mesa Marauders. The Marauders will be hosting the Patriots this Friday night.

Mira Mesa’s head coach Chris Thompson, will be making his head coaching debut this 2018 season. After previously serving as the assistant coach for 22 seasons at Mira Mesa, and being Bonita Vista’s former head coach, he returns to his alma mater Mira Mesa to leave his mark.

The Marauders will be coming out of their 2017 season with an overall record of 5-6 and a league record of 0-4. The Patriots finished their 2017 season with an overall record of 3-8 and a league record of 2-2. Last season, the Patriots fell short to the Marauders, losing 47-14. The Patriots are looking to take back that win this opening week.

It’s not hard to compare these two opposing quarterbacks. The Marauders senior quarterback, Noah Tumblin, had an impressive 2017 season with a total of 2,020 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. The Patriots senior quarterback, Ethan Gomez, closed out his 2017 season with a total of 1,411 passing yards and 8 touchdowns. Which quarterback will end up on top?
