Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots 21, Morse Tigers 28
It is hard to beat a team on senior night. The Morse Tigers beat the Patrick Henry Patriots 28-21.
The Patrick Henry Patriots played well in a hostile environment, but couldn’t last four quarters against the Tigers offense. Running back Zariyan Cook was amazing. Cook rushed for over 100 yards and had two touchdowns. Potential Silver Pigskin nominee Dominick Silvels had a decent first half; rushing for 50 yards and a touchdown, but was injured late in the second half and didn’t play much of factor late in the game. Wide receiver Dezmon Patton did have a catch, but was mostly blanketed by Morse defensive back Daquirae Irby.
The Morse Tigers relied on running back Marcus Turner. Turner finished the night with over 140 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Running back Deshon Christmas carried the rock for 86 yards. One of the biggest plays of the night came from quarterback Jay Betterton late in the first quarter. With less than two-seconds left to play, Betterton scrambled for 12 yards and eluded several Patriot defenders to put the Tigers on the board. If it wasn’t for this late touchdown, the Tigers would have went into the second half with no momentum and probably lost the game.
The (4-5) Morse Tigers will host the Hoover Cardinals next week. The (3-6) Patrick Henry Patriots will host Santee next week. You can watch the highlights of this weeks game on Youtube.
Week 10 of the Prep Pigskin Report takes us to Morse High School where The Tigers (3-5) will be hosting the Patrick Henry Patriots (3-5) this upcoming Friday night. Last season when the two teams met, for their final game of the season, Morse achieved the win with a Final Score of 35-14. Both of the teams have a tied records, they will be looking to improved their stats and enter Week 11 coming off a win.
Patrick Henry is coming of a bye in Week 9, giving the Patriots the opportunity to focus and practice for the upcoming game.
Morse is coming off a tough loss in week 9. When the Tigers hosted the Christian Patriots, they put up a tough fight but ultimately lost in double overtime with a Final Score of 13-6. Martell Irby was able to put points on the board for his team last week when he scored a touchdown, hopefully we can see some action like that out on the field this week as well.
