Point Loma 47 vs. Santana 33
The Point Loma Pointers (4-1) beat the Santana Sultans (2-3) Friday night 47-33. The game was much closer than the score.
The Sultans played the Pointers tough through the first half of the game. The Sultan defense caused three turnovers on the Pointers’ first three possessions resulting in two long field goals by Jacob Hampson.
In the second quarter the Pointers came to life scoring 20 points. Tshombre Carter scored a touchdown and Jaylen Griffin scored a rushing touchdown and returned a kick for a touchdown after an errant snap by Santana turned into a safety.
With their starting quarterback Frankie Gutierrez sidelined with an ankle injury for parts of the game, Santana was held together offensively by Zack Lewis who had both a rushing and receiving touchdown in the second quarter. Lewis also threw a touchdown pass in the third quarter on a half back pass to Dominic Kostamo.
During the third quarter Santana linebacker Sam Kenniston had to be taken via ambulance to a local hospital with potential head and or neck injuries. He was down for several minutes but was able to give a thumbs up to the crowd as he was placed into the ambulance Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
Next week Santana will host Mar Vista while the Pointers will host Scripps Ranch.
