Preview: Ramona vs. Rancho Bernardo
The Palomar League title is up for grabs this Thursday as Ramona travels to Rancho Bernardo to face the Broncos.
Rancho Bernardo is 6-2 and a lock for a playoff bid. The Bulldogs beat the Broncos 30-0 last season but this is a whole new year where the Broncos are on a three game winning streak. Rancho Bernardo’s defense has huge allowing only 11 points per game. Making this game tougher for the Broncos is the loss of Silver Pigskin watch lister Tyree Range who injured his knee last week. Expect to see David Arevalo, Rodney Bolden and Anthony Barnum get the carries in his absence. The Broncos will also need a big night from quarterback Tucker Reed. Reed has had a solid season, throwing nine touchdown passes with only two interceptions. He has over 1,000 yards passing. If they can pull off the upset this would be the Broncos first league title since 2004.
Meanwhile the defending league champion Bulldogs are 7-1 including 3-0 in league play. They are highlighted by quarterback Marco Cobian and Silver Pigskin watch list running back Brandon Gansch. Just a junior, Cobian has 13 touchdown passes and only three interceptions this season compiling more than 1,000 yards. Gansch making waves this year with 20 rushing touchdowns with over 1,200 yards and even missed a game. Only Point Loma and Helix have held the Bulldogs to less than 42 points this season.
Kickoff is set for Thursday night at 7 PM and highlights can be seen on Thursday’s All Sports Report.
