Ramona Bulldogs 28, Rancho Bernardo Broncos 0

It was homecoming night for the Ramona Bulldogs as they took on the visiting Rancho Bernardo Broncos, and they did not disappoint in front of the larger than usual crowd. Thanks to nearly flawless play on both sides of the field, the Bulldogs cruised to a 28-0 win.

The game wasn’t always out of hand though. Like most league rivalries, Rancho Bernardo played hard and competed for the entire first half. Ramona took a 14-0 lead due to their stellar defense and a strong running game. Running back Tristan Stacy made the first play of his player of the game performance on the opening drive by catching Casey Buggeln’s deep ball for a 52 yard score and giving his team a 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs kept a laser-like focus on Broncos’ quarterback Christian Lewis the whole night, getting six sacks and three from Nick Maccini including a monster hit on Lewis early on in the 1st quarter. Sean McDonald bullied his way to the end zone from 13 yards out for Ramona, then Gabriel Stallman ended a great half with yet another sack.

Ramona eventually wore out Rancho Bernardo with their ground and pound offense and took complete control in the second half. Ramona’s talented cast of running backs continued to shine as a whole, starting off with Caleb Berman’s 91 yard touchdown run. Lets not forget that Berman has already broken off a 60 yard run earlier this season. Ramona’s offensive line deserves a lot of the credit for the way the running backs played. Every single starter on the line was a sophomore last season; there’s a lot of experience and it showed. Tristan Stacy finally put the nail in the coffin with a 56 yard punt return late in the 4th quarter, and the Bulldogs continued their perfect year at 4-0. Rancho Bernardo still hopes to get their first win of the year; if they’re able to play the way they did in the first half then it’s not out of the question. Tune into the Prep Pigskin Report next week to see what unfolds in Week 5!

PREVIEW: We’re only in Week 4 of 2017 CIF Football and its already safe to say this has been an incredibly exciting season! With well known powerhouse schools struggling and previously unheard of players breaking out, fans need to brace themselves for any possibility. Both the Rancho Bernardo Broncos and hosting Ramona Bulldogs have a chance to do something great, but only one will leave the stadium with a win.
Ramona has a lot to be confident in, the team has played almost flawless football to start the season and their perfect 3-0 record is a product of that. On one side of the field is a suffocating defense which has only allowed 4 touchdowns in 3 games, and on the other side is a balanced offense led by quarterback Casey Buggeln. The Bulldog offense has been very hard to stop, mainly due to their mistake free play and strong cast of running backs. Four different backs have already ran for 120+ yards this year.

The Rancho Bernardo Broncos may be off to a rough 0-3 start but Bulldog fans shouldn’t be chalking this up as a W just yet. Rancho Bernardo has proved they can compete despite the losses, they suffered a tough defeat to Otay Ranch last week but there were definitely some high points. Both quarterback Christian Lewis and receiver Malcolm Ross-Turner had strong performances, the Broncos will be expected to follow their example if the team wants that first win of the year.
