Torrey Pines 47, San Clemente 45
After a tight game of two teams going back and forth, the Torrey Pines Falcons edged out the San Clemente Tritons by the final score of 47-45.
The two teams held their own, and showed their strength and determination throughout the entire game.
Where do we start with this wild game?
To kick things off, Torrey Pines running back Mac Bingham started the game out with an 8-yard touchdown run making it 7-0.
The Tritons answered with a forceful 37-yard touchdown run by James Bohls, tying the game at 7-7. The Falcons then respond with another Bingham touchdown run, making it 14-7.
San Clemente went on to tie the game up once again with Jay Baggs’ 69-yard pass touchdown in the second quarter, 14-14.
As the night continues, more and more unbelievable plays happened. The teams found themselves, yes, you guessed it, tied again, 38-38, in the fourth quarter.
San Clemente’s Jaydel Jenkins makes an impressive 66-yard pass completion for a touchdown, producing a score of 45-38.
Torrey Pines figured they weren’t ready for this to be over, as the Falcons’ Evan Galuzzi had a 19-yard touchdown pass making it 45-44.
Torrey Pines decided to attempt a two-point conversion, but were stopped. Some may have thought it was over, but it was far from over.
With :43 left in the game, the Falcons recovered the onside kick. After they moved a little ways down the field, Torrey Pines kicker Ted Merrifield made a game-winning 41 yard field goal.
This game will be one to remember. Both teams never gave up and put up a good fight.

The Torrey Pines Falcons will be hosting the San Clemente Tritons in a Week 2 matchup this Friday night.
The Falcons are 1-0 and the Tritons are 1-0, as well. With both teams recording wins last week, who will be the one to take the win this week?
When looking at the numbers, the Falcons’ standout senior running back, Mac Bingham, will be one to keep your eye on.
Bingham is a talented two-sport athlete (a USC baseball commit) who racked up a total of 18 touchdowns in his ’17-’18 season.
The Tritons are coming out of last week’s win, 34 -19, against Oceanside.
Tritons senior quarterback Brendan Costello recorded a total of 167 passing yards last week. Tritons senior wide receiver Jaydell Jenkins had an exceptional game last week as well, ending the game with one touchdown and a total of 134 receiving yards. It looks like the Falcons might want to be on the lookout for him.
This week’s matchup will be honoring two former Torrey Pines alumni and football players, John Allred and Brian Batson. Both are currently on the coaching staff for San Clemente. Allred went on to play for USC and then the NFL, playing for the Chicago Bears (1997-2000) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (2002). Batson went on to play for Stanford.
There will be a special jersey framing for these two former star players. It will be exciting to see these two come full circle and come back to where it all started.
