Brenton Bell’s Four Touchdown Game Leads Kearny Over San Ysidro

The Kearny Komets came away with a clear victory tonight to remain undefeated. Kearny came out looking like a well oiled machine for this mid season matchup. San Ysidro however struggled to get the ball moving all night, and committed costly penalties. The Cougars had nearly 100 yards of penalties in the first half. Kearny’s offense was dominate and came away with a 41-0 victory.

Kam Castellani-Ray started the game with a 16 yard touchdown pass to Devon Jones. The human highlight real tonight was standout running back Brenton Bell. Bell had a 4 touchdown game last week, and duplicated his performance this week. Bell had 13 carries for 204 yards and 4 total touchdowns. Bell is defiantly a player to watch come season end for our Silver Pigskin award.

Next week San Ysidro will play host to Francis Parker. The Cougars will look to get back to their winning ways against a winless Francis Parker. Kearny will look to keep their record clean and take on Coronado.

As usual the Prep Pigskin Report will air next Friday showing highlights from this game as well as many others from throughout the county. Be sure to tune in then! Highlights and up to the minute scores can be found across our various social media platforms.

PREVIEW:

It is now week five of the high school football season. Teams are settling in and really starting to work together. The matchup this week of the San Ysidro Cougars (3-1) taking on the Kearny Komets (4-0) is no exception.

San Ysidro started off the season with victories against Coronado, Mountain Empire and Escondido Charter, but struggled against Vincent Memorial last week. The Cougars defense had only allowed 35 points going into last week where they allowed 49. In order for the Cougars to come away with a victory this week, they will need to emphasize the importance of keeping their defense off the field and their offense on it. The Cougars offense is well balanced between the run and pass. Quarterback Junior Bueno is a player to watch in this game.

Kearny’s offense has scored 105 more points than their opponents to date.  A strong-armed Quarterback, Kenyon Williams, leads the Komets. Williams averages 164.8 yards per game, and has nine touchdowns to date. On the ground, Brenton Bell leads the Komets. Last week, Bell had four touchdowns. He averages 208.5 yards per game. Look for Williams and Bell to continue to lead the Komets as they try to remain perfect on the season. One interesting thing to look for in this game is that Williams has thrown an interception in each of his last three games. Williams and the Komets need to keep their turnovers to a minimum in order to come away with a win.

This game is set to take place at 6:30 this Friday at Kearny High School.
