San Ysidro Cougars 24, Southwest Raiders 32

Week Ten wrapped up on Friday night Halloween eve in the South Bay between the San Ysidro Cougars and Southwest Raiders.  With Southwest winning a shootout in a very competitive turnover filled game 32-24.  In the first quarter alone the their was five turnovers between the two schools before ball security came into play and scoring drives taking shape on Southwest’s home field although it was a road game for San Ysidro the schools are less than five miles apart.  The Raiders jumped out to a 16-0 halftime lead, but the young Cougars from San Ysidro finally mounted a nice drive and responded with a touchdown of their own when Franklin Forbes found Alex Gomez on a fade to the right corner to cut the lead to 16-7 after the point after touchdown was made.  San Ysidro then chipped away at the start of the fourth quarter making a field goal to narrow the deficit to 16-10.  But Southwest was lead by Joshua Sanchez, he scored two touchdowns and also had two very nice interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.  The first came off a deflection that setup his one yard run to open the scoring on the night.  The game stayed close in the 4th quarter when both teams started exchanging touchdowns.  The win for Southwest puts them in control of their own destiny entering the regular season finale next week Friday November 6th against first place Castle Park, that game will be at Southwest.  The winner will be crowned Metro Pacific Champs.  Although Southwest has only won one game this season, they won Friday night when it counted most they are 1-8 overall, but 1-1 in league play.  Castle Park is 2-0 and 5-4 overall.   Next Friday will be a 7pm kickoff at Southwest High School,

PREVIEW:Week Ten in the South Bay will kickoff a showdown between San Ysidro playing at SD Southwest.  The winner of this game will run their record to 1-1 in Metro Pacific play and will be chasing the Montgomery Aztecs and Castle Park Trojans, only a game behind in the standings.  Its been a very tough year for both SD Southwest and San Ysidro.  Both winless with a combined 0-15 record, but with a win on Friday night on Halloween eve they can be right in the mix heading into the first week of November.

It should be a very competitive game two evenly match teams, but SD Southwest may have the advantage offensively putting together their best game of the season in a road loss last Friday night against Montgomery 23-16.  While San Ysidro made the short bus ride to Castle Park losing 34-0. If San Ysidro can get into the win column this Friday they can play spoiler and put SD Southwest into an 0-2 hole in league, pretty much sealing the fate for whoever does not win this game.  It’s not a winner take all situation, but the ramifications for both schools would be tremendous to try and extend the season beyond the season finale and possibly making the playoffs.  It should be a good ball game with two teams trying to put a serious damper on the Halloween dance Friday night in the high school gymnasium after the game.  You can watch all the highlights on Friday night on KUSI tune into the Prep Pigskin Report.  Also follow scores, stats, and updates on social media on twitter and Instagram.
