Santana Sultans 35, Monte Vista Monarchs 13

The Santana Sultans improve to (5-2) as they spoil Monte Vista’s homecoming game and continue their great season. Monte Vista is now (2-5) as they look to bounce back in week 8. Quarterback Frankie Gutierrez was the star of the game as he had five total touchdowns, three on the ground, and two passing. Gutierrez was just too much to handle for the Monarchs as he had a great arm and great breakaway speed on the ground. Santana’s running back Bobby Wallace also had a great game as he showed his athleticism in the backfield. The Monarchs Jaccob Jardim tacked on the first touchdown for the Monarchs with a 3 yard touchdown run but it was not enough to beat the Sultans. Tre Owens showed the Sultans that he would not quit as he had huge plays and a touchdown late in the game. The final score was 35-13 Sultans. The Sultans now improve to (1-0) and the Monarchs now (0-1) in the Grossmont Valley League. Santana will have a bye in week 8 and will host the El Cajon Valley Braves in week 9 for their second league game. The Monte Vista Monarchs will hit the road to also take on the El Cajon Valley Braves but in week 8.

PREVIEW

The Santana Sultans(4-2) travel to Monte Vista High School to take on the Monarchs(2-4) on their homecoming night.  Santana will look to spoil the Monarchs homecoming night as the Sultans have had a strong season so far. The Monarchs started off the season going (0-4) but bounced right back with 2 consecutive home wins. Will the Monarchs make it a 3 game winning streak on Friday? Last season the Monarchs brought home a 45-10 victory over the Sultans.

The Sultans 3 year starting quarterback Frankie Gutierrez has had a tremendous season so far as he has thrown for over 1,100 passing yards with 12 touchdowns. Gutierrez has many weapons on his offense as his main target is senior wide out Adam Childress which is near 400 yards receiving with 5 touchdowns. Junior running back Bobby Wallace is also a huge threat to the Monarchs as he has found his way to the end zone 8 times this season. The Monarchs are lead by Sophomore quarterback Dennis Dahlin who has proven that he will be an impact player for team for years to come. Monarch’s senior Tre Owens can do it all. Owens from kick returner, punt returner, wide receiver, and even quarterback, is an exciting athlete to watch as the Sultans will have to do everything they can to stop him if they want to win this game.

We are in for an exciting match up on Friday night at 7 PM at Monte Vista High School. Highlights will be aired on KUSI’S Prep Pigskin Report at 10:30. Tune in for the highlights of this game and others all around San Diego County.
