Lincoln Hornets 27, Serra Conquistadors 0

The first game of the season is now in the books and The Hornets of Lincoln win their season home opener against The Conquistadors of Serra High School. The score was Lincoln 27, Serra 0. Lincoln repeated their domination from last year’s season opener against The Conquistadors.

The game though was called after an altercation between the two teams. The fight started in the third quarter with Lincoln’s Reggie Brooks returning a punt and was hit hard by Serra’s Earnesto Coleman. The hit took place by Serra’s sidelines and that’s where things escalated. Both benches were cleared. After the referees huddled up to discuss the incident they decided to call off the game with 8:55 left in the quarter.

Besides the game ending early Hornets, Running Back Micah Edwards had a great game. He scored 3 Touchdowns and they were all in the first half. Also Lincoln’s Reggie Brooks returned a punt for 71 yards for a Touchdown in the second quarter. Lincoln definitely came to play.

As for The Conquistadors they couldn’t get the offense going and their defense couldn’t stop Lincoln’s offense. Serra now looks forward to next week’s away game against The Cougars of San Ysidro. As for Lincoln they have a bye week, but on September 9th they welcome The Pointers of Point Loma High School.

PREVIEW – Friday Night Lights are back at Lincoln High School where The Hornets of Lincoln High School will be hosting The Conquistadors of Serra High School. This is a non-conference match up as well as, a rematch of last year’s season opener between the two teams.

Last year, Lincoln won on the road 60 to 0. Obviously, Lincoln’s mindset is to repeat their domination, but this time at their house. As for The Conquistadors, they’re hoping to flip the script on them this year. That victory for The Hornets was one of two for them as they finished last season (2-8). As for The Conquistadors they finished their season last year (1-9).

This is a fresh start for both teams. Especially for The Conquistadors as they welcome their new Head Coach, Dru Smith. Hopefully the presence of Coach Dru can spark the team to victory.

The Conquistadors have all their offensive linemen from last year’s team returning to protect their returning quarterback, Joaquin Quintana-McKinney. Quintana-McKinney played some games last season so he has some experience under his belt. That’s why he is one of the players to watch for Friday night.

Lincoln Hornets, Coach Dunn has 12 returning seniors which includes their running back Micah Edwards, another player to look out for. I believe this game won’t be the same as last year. I think both teams will bring their A-game and it will be a close one, where it will take the last couple of minutes of the game to determine a victor.
