San Ysidro 51, Southwest 14

Fireworks rained down the San Ysidro sky as Homecoming Queen Brianna Cervantes celebrated with her father in front of her classmates. Freshman quarterback Franklin Forbes scored two second half touchdowns in a 51-14 rout of the Southwest Raiders in the Battle of the Golden Shovel.

Junior Eduardo Santiago took a handoff up the middle, broke a tackle and took off for 23-yards before being tripped up at the 20-yard line. Forbes took off on a quarterback keeper to the right and side stepped two defenders inside the 10-yard line for a 20-yard touchdown to make 45-8 Cougars.

Southwest faced a 4th and 5 on their next possession at the Cougar 35 yard line and Moses Robles was able to convert on a roll out to the right. Fellow senior Christian Silva took a direct snap and ran left, used his blocks and was knocked out of bounds at the 1-yard line. Silva finished the drive with a touchdown two plays later to make it 45-14.

With time running out, the Raiders attempted an onside kick but were unable to recover. Forbes responded quickly with a deep play action pass deep to sophomore Corey Maddox for a 35-yard touchdown to seal the win.
