St. Augustine Saints 42, Mira Mesa Marauders 7

In Week 9, the St. Augustine Saints came out on top with the 42-7 win over the Mira Mesa Marauders.

Mira Mesa started off the game with a couple of strong plays. Between a Jake Ambrose interception and a Feema Phakasoum quarterback keeper, the Marauders were looking to score first. But before they could get on the board, St. Augustine struck first. Darrell Broussard picked up his first touchdown of the evening on a 75 yard run, and the Saints were up 7-0. A couple of plays later, it was Broussard again. His 61 yard touchdown run and Liam Griste’s PAT were good, which put St. Augustine up 14-0 at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, the Saints scored again. This time it was two yard quarterback sneak by Rodney Thompson, putting the Saints 21-0 over the Marauders. Mira Mesa’s Giovanni Herrera made a couple of great runs, including a 35 yard scramble where he broke quite a few tackles. Despite the Marauders’ best efforts it was Saints with the score once again. This time it was Rodney Thompson with a 46 yard touchdown pass to JR Justice, which made the score 28-0 at the half.

Moving into the third quarter, Rodney Thompson found Tariq Thompson for a 40 yard touchdown pass. Rodney Thompson had 165 total yards for the evening. Mira Mesa wasn’t going down without a fight. Leading the charge was Giovanni Herrera, who would score Mira Mesa’s only touchdown this game. He went 42 yards for the score, which made it 35-7.

The Saints closed out this game on Broussard’s third touchdown of the night. The 24 yard touchdown run made the final score 42-7.

Next Friday, Mira Mesa will travel to the home of the Madison Warhawks. The Warhawks will be coming off at 21-0 win over the Lincoln Hornets in Week 9.

Next week, St. Augustine will meet their rivals, the Cathedral Catholic Dons, in the matchup known as the “Holy Bowl”.

PREVIEW: This Friday, the St. Augustine Saints (6-1) travel to the home of the Mira Mesa Marauders (1-6).

The Marauders are coming off a tough loss to Cathedral Catholic, where the Dons triumphed 45-6. Though the score does not necessarily show it, the Marauders put up a good fight against the Dons. As with weeks past, Mira Mesa’s Lamar Raboteau was a key player for his team. The running back has come in clutch for his team this season, averaging over 150 rushing yards per game and scoring nine touchdowns for the Marauders this season. Raboteau and Giovanni Herrera will be the biggest threats to the St. Augustine defense.

The St. Augustine Saints are coming off a 63-14 win over the Mission Bay Buccaneers. Led by QB Rodney Thompson, who put up 267 passing yards last week, the Saints will no doubt hit the ground running early against the Marauders. In their matchup against the Buccaneers, the Saints scored three touchdowns before the end of the first quarter. This eager offense could definitely spell trouble for Mira Mesa. Key players for the Saints include Darrell Broussard and Isaac Taylor-Stuart, who have nearly 830 rushing yards between them this season.
