St. Augustine Saints 45, Point Loma Pointers 7

The St. Augustine Saints and the Point Loma Pointers went heads up in the Quarterfinals for Playoffs in hopes to advance to the next round. The Pointers fell short a couple of touchdowns, with a final score of 45-7, St. Augustine with the win.

The Saint’s offense and defense were unstoppable tonight. There were some impressive plays from both ends that definitely reflected the final score of the game. St. Augustine had a total of 6 touchdowns and  a successful 21 yard field goal attempt made by Senior Liam Griste. Out of the total 6 touchdowns, Wide Receiver Jr Justice had a total of 4 touchdowns himself. He had a total of 6 receptions and 115 receiving yards. On the Defensive side, there was an impressive amount of sacks throughout the game. The Defensive Linemen were all aggressive during the entire game. They rushed the quarterback constantly, making him struggle to get the ball towards the end zone.  Courtland Koonce had 1 sack, Isaac Hall had 2 sacks, and Tysean White also had 2 sacks himself. The Saint’s defense kept the Pointers at 0 most of the game. Although the Pointers struggled to keep up with these Saints, they never gave up once. It even goes to show as they found a way to score in the final quarter of the game. The Pointer’s running back, Josh Ball, had most of the carries for his team, and was the one to score the only touchdown of the night for his team.

The St. Augustine Saints (9-2) will now move onto the Semi Finals next Friday where they will take on the La Costa Canyon Mavericks (6-5). The winner of this game will have the opportunity to advance to the Division 1 Championship to play the winner of Madison versus San Marcos.

PREVIEW: We are now in Week 13 of the Prep Pigskin Report where these San Diego teams will be going heads up for the Quarterfinals of the CIF Playoffs. In Division 1, the Point Loma Pointers (5-6) will be battling it out this Friday night versus the St. Augustine Saints (8-2). The Saints hold the 2nd seed in Division 1, so they will be coming off a bye week going straight into the second round. Point Loma definitely earned their spot into the Quarterfinals as they battled it out with El Camino for the first round, beating them 42-35.

These two teams had just played each other two weeks ago for their last regular game of the season. The Pointers fell short a couple of touchdowns to the Saints, with a final score of 45-15. Since they just played one another so recently, they must have a clear understanding of what to expect from one another as a team. Some key players to keep an eye out for are St. Augustine’s Darrell Broussard and Isaac Taylor-stuart. These two star players have the most All Purpose yards on the team, Broussard with 1,132 and Taylor-stuart with 1,047. The Pointers must have their Defense on their best game when competing against these Saints. Although the Pointers lost versus the Saints in their last match up, it can definitely be any team’s game at this point. Looking back at the beginning of the Pointer’s schedule, they lost to El Camino for their first game of the season, and just now beat them in the first round of playoffs. The Pointers are obviously looking out for some revenge, so the Saints must be prepared for this week’s game.

Kick-off will begin at 7:00 PM at San Diego Mesa College’s Merrill Douglas Stadium. Follow @REDJACKETARMY on Instagram and Twitter for updates throughout the game! Be Sure to watch the Prep Pigskin Report Friday Night at 10:30 PM for the best highlights and more!
