St. Augustine 21, Lincoln 7

St. Augustine traveled to Lincoln on Friday night and defeated the Hornets by a final score of 21-7.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter. The Hornets had an opportunity to score after recovering a Saints fumble. Unfortunately, the field goal hit the cross bar and was no good.

The Saints offense started to pick up in the second quarter. Elijah Preston had a couple big runs to put the Saints in great field position. Darrell Broussard was able to put the first points on the board when he ran in for the 13-yard touchdown. Saints lead 7-0.

Hornets Donell Pleasant answered right back. He took the kick off return 79 yards, which set up a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Devon Johnson to La’tre Jacquess. It tied the game 7-7.

Momentum continued swinging the Hornets way when they once again recovered a Saints fumble. This time it was on the kick off return. They were not able to capitalize, and the game stayed tied going into the half.

In the third quarter, Jacquess big reception put the Hornets in field goal range. The field goal was blocked by the Saints, and the score stayed tied.

From there, the Saints took control. This time, Broussard had a 39-yard touchdown run to extend the Saints lead 14-7.

Mid way through the fourth quarter, Preston punched it in for the 1-yard touchdown run, which helped seal the win for St. Augustine.

Both teams will advance to the playoffs next week. Check back with the Prep Pigskin Report to find out who they play.
