Week 3: Carlsbad Lancers 62, Sweetwater Red Devils 0
Week Three of the season comes to a close with the Carlsbad Lancers coming out on top against the Sweetwater Red Devils with a final score of 62-0.
On the opening kickoff, Carlsbad’s junior Noah Vella exploded past everyone with a 98-yard return for a touchdown, giving Carlsbad the lead, 7-0. What better way to start a game.
Carlsbad managed to keep the momentum. In the second quarter, Lancers’ senior quarterback Keoni Quintana sent a 33-yard touchdown pass to Asa Turner, making it 28-0 Lancers.
Sweetwater senior Luciano Estopier attempted to drive the ball down with a 35-yard kickoff return, but the Red Devils were eventually stopped by Carlsbad’s defense.
Carlsbad kept the touchdowns coming, as Quintana’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Coleby Whillock made it 42-0 Lancers.
As the third quarter rolled around, Sweetwater made another attempt to drive the ball down to the goal line, but were unable to get the first down at the 24-yard line.
Carlsbad’s junior North Dewhurst had a 47-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, closing out the game with a final score of 62-0.
Sweetwater’s efforts just couldn’t get past Carlsbad’s solid defense.

The Carlsbad Lancers (1-1) will be hosting the Sweetwater Red Devils (0-2) in this Week 3 matchup.
Carlsbad’s offense should be exciting to watch this Friday night.
The Lancers’ senior running back, Luke Armstrong, should be on everyone’s radar this week. Coming out of his past two games, he has a total of 109 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Alongside Armstrong is junior wide receiver Noah Vella, who has a total of 108 receiving yards and one touchdown. These two players should not go unnoticed.
Just when you thought the Lancers’ lineup couldn’t get any better, widely-recruited receiver and defensive back Asa Turner also adds to the list of talent. Turner just recently committed to the University of Washington to play for the Huskies. It’s safe to say their roster is looking good.
Sweetwater is coming off last week’s 30-12 loss against Fallbrook, and are looking to turn things around this week.
Red Devils senior Luciano Estopier has a total of 237 rushing yards under his belt.
Another player to keep an eye on is sophomore defensive back and wide receiver Julian Torres. Torres averaged 15 yards per catch in his last game versus Fallbrook.
With both teams having strength on their sides, you won’t want to miss all the action and highlights this Friday night on KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report at 10:45 p.m. For live updates throughout the game, follow us on Twitter @RedJacketArmy.
