Valley Center Jaguars 13, San Pasqual Golden Eagles 6

This week the San Pasqual Golden Eagles traveled to Valley Center to take on the Jaguars. Both the Golden Eagles and the Jaguars were 5-1 going in to this week’s game.

During the first drive the Golden Eagles switched back and forth between quarterbacks Nick Hurst and Westin Erdman. With a good first drive the Golden Eagles, unfortunately, weren’t able to capitalize but not for long.

The Golden Eagles came out on their second drive of the game and scored on the first play with a 68-yard run from Sam Serrato making it 6-0, Golden Eagles.

At the beginning of the second quarter, the Jaguars came out the gates ready to rumble. Jaguars quarterback, KJ Mezzetti, passed to Brock Moffitt for a 26-yard gain. Again, Mezzetti connected with Moffitt for another 11-yard pass that put the Jaguars on the board, 7-6 Jaguars.

With 24 seconds left in the half, Jaguars look to score once again. They inched their way down the field from the 16-yard line to the 4-yard line and settled for a field goal going into half time, 10-6 Jaguars.

In the third quarter, both the Golden Eagles and the Jaguars looked to make big plays. In the end, it’s Valley Centers who capitalized late in the 4th quarter. Brock Moffitt, playing both sides of the football, put a stop to the Golden Eagles with big defensive plays late in the game.

With 3 minutes left in the game scoring another field goal making the final 13-6, Jaguars.

Next week, the Jaguars will face off against the Fallbrook Warriors at home while the Golden Eagles will also be at home against the Oceanside Pirates. Tune in to KUSI Prep Pigskin Report next week at 10:30pm to see how each team does in week 9.

PREVIEW: The Valley Center Jaguars are back at home this week after having been on the road for 3 weeks. Despite their travels they have managed to win each of those road games setting themselves at a 5-1 record going into Friday night’s game against the visiting San Pasqual Golden Eagles.

The well-rested Golden Eagles are coming off their bye week. The Golden Eagles aren’t looking too bad as they sit with 4-2 record in preparation for Friday night.

Last time these two teams met at San Pasqual High School, last year, the Golden Eagles won 16-10 over the Jaguars.

This year, the Golden Eagles will fight for another victory over the Jaguars. Coach Tony Corley and his squad will be aggressive on defense. The senior defensive tackle, Nicholas “Cole” Hardan, and junior middle linebacker, Tim Hansen, will show their power on the field.

Cole Hardan at 6’1”, 264 lbs. is explosive off the line. Running a 5.07 40-yard dash the Golden Eagles senior can make plays with strength and speed having 3 solo tackles including 1 sack in his game last week against the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns.

While the Golden Eagles are tough on defense, the Jaguars have quite the offensive skill players in senior wide receivers, Brock Moffitt and Micah Wierenga.

Brock Moffitt is a three-sport athlete for Valley Center as a member of the baseball, football, and wrestling team. This year, Moffitt has a total of 22 catches and 365 total receiving yards. He averages 73 receiving yards per game. Moffitt is no stranger to the end zone having scored 4 receiving touchdowns this season.

In week 8 the Valley Center Jaguars will look to face off against the San Pasqual Golden Eagles at 7:00pm at Valley Center High School. Tune in to KUSI Prep Pigskin Report at 10:30pm every Friday night to see their highlights.
