Professor Kaplan’s reference to Barron Trump during impeachment hearing draws strong backlash
WASHINGTON D.C. (KUSI) – During the House Judiciary Committee’s first impeachment hearing, Professor Pamela Karlan used a disgraceful reference toward President Trump’s 13-year-old son to try and prove a point.
Karlan’s comments quickly drew sharp criticism from people watching and even caused the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, to take to Twitter to defend her son.
Melania wrote, “A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics. Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.” These were the First Lady’s first remarks about the impeachment hearings.
It is worth noting that Professor Karlan has donated over $10,000 in the past to Democrat candidates including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and 2020 candidate Elizabeth Warren. She also has admitted that she used to intentionally avoid walking directly next to the Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.. Republicans pointed both of these facts out as proof of Professor Karlan’s bias against President Donald Trump.
A little later in the hearing, Professor Karlan apologized for her joke invoking Barron Trump. The apology did not come without a call for President Trump to also “apologize for what he’s done that’s wrong.”
Other notable elected officials and members of the Trump family voiced their opinion against Kaplan’s reference on Twitter.
