Program gives one-way, one-time bus tickets to homeless people

A program run by the Downtown San Diego Partnership is paying for one-way, one-time bus tickets for homeless people. It’s meant to help people relocate to other cities, where they can live with friends or family.

Critics of the program say all it does is move homeless people from one place to another. However, the San Diego Housing Commission sees the program as a success and recently doubled its grants to the program.

The program has relocated 1,700 people in six years.
