Prop 4: Children’s hospital ballot measure may bring billion dollar bond to Rady’s
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – California Senator Dianne Feinstein was at Rady Children’s hospital this afternoon to emphasize the importance of passing Proposition-4, a State bond issue for 13-children’s hospitals in California.
The 1.5 billion dollar bond issue is on next week’s ballot.
72% or 1.1 billion would go to the eight private, non-profit children’s hospitals, Rady’s would get $135 million.
18% would go to the five UC Children’s Hospitals. The remaining 10% would help fund 150 other hospitals.
The cost to taxpayers is $2.9 billion over 35 years. $1.5 billion in principal payments, and $1.4 billion in interest.
The annual debt payment is $80 million.
Feinstein also wants to protect Medicaid funding which, she contends, is under threat from congress whose looking to further dismantle Obamacare.
Medicaid, or Medi-al in California, combined with the children’s health insurance program, are the underpinning for the entire children’s health care system.
