Property taxes due Monday, offices open late

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The second installment of property taxes are due Monday, and tax collector’s offices will be open later to accept payment.

The county of San Diego Treasurer-Tax Collector’s offices will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in various locations around the county. On top of being open later, taxpayers also received an extra day as April 10 fell on a Sunday.

Turning in payment after the close of business today will result in a 10 percent penalty on the entire bill, plus a $10 fee, Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said. Of the 986,858 bills mailed in September, 195,000 remain unpaid, McAllister said.

“I want to thank the San Diego County taxpayers who have already stepped up and paid their tax bills,” McAllister said. “Last year, taxpayers helped us reach a collection rate of 99.2 percent—a rate I know we can beat this year.”

Only one location—the Pacific Highway location—accepts cash and even offers curbside drop-off.
