Proposed bill for affordable housing funding to be voted on next week

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego  and communities around California continue to face an acute housing shortage.

Today, housing advocates and political leaders, including Mayor Kevin Faulconer, are pushing for a bill out of Sacramento that would provide funding for affordable housing.

Senate Bill 5 would provide $200 million a year, starting in 2020, to help local governments build more affordable housing.

The bill is heading for a vote by a state assembly committee next Friday.
