Proposed SDPD Cuts Harmful to Public Safety

San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne was on Good Morning San Diego speaking about his  recent proposal for cutting $15.9 million from his already bare-bones department budget in 2011-2012. Chief Landsdowne says that without passing Prop D San Diego's first line of defense will suffer.

Chief Lansdowne urged the public to back Mayor Jerry Sanders' “plan” to address the city's projected deficit of $72 million in the coming year by passing Prop D, the proposed half cent sales tax increase. He says, “The only immediate prospect for such a funding influx is Proposition D, a proposed ballot measure that goes before voters next month. The initiative would raise about $103 million a year through a half-cent sales tax hike.”
