Protests erupt over planned ICE raids

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Thousands of protesters around the country rallied yesterday against planned ICE raids.

The agency plans to sweep 10 cities on Sunday, in an effort to detain 2,000 immigrants who have been issued final orders of removal. The cities include Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York and San Francisco.

Several of the mayors of these cities are refusing to cooperate with the raids and pledging to block ICE access to local law enforcement resources.

People gathered outside ICE facilities to protest the treatment of undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers as well as the the raids themselves.

The raids were originally scheduled to take place in June, but were delayed by President Trump to give Congress time to come up with immigration reform legislation.
