Quin Murphy Foundation
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The Murphy’s are a very large, very tight-knit, very involved family from Chula Vista. Everyone knows the Murphys in the South Bay.
Brian, lost his 16-year-old son, Quin, in 2010 due to medical error. His perfectly healthy son got sick one day and four months later — after getting the run-around from a variety of doctors/hospitals — he died in his father’s arms. It’s a very sad story.
Instead of seeking revenge, the Murphy’s launched the Quin Murphy Foundation and have raised more than $80,000 through their big annual fundraiser/barbeque and have allocated all of the money for college scholarships to students in the Sweetwater School District, where Brian and many of his family members teach. (Brian teaches at the district’s Alta Vista Academy for foster kids.) They award the scholarships at year-end assemblies, focusing on kids who want to enter the medical field.
Last year, Brian decided to write a book about the whole experience and it’s coming out on Saturday April 7th! Brian Murphy joined us in studio on Good Morning San Diego to tell us more about it.
