Rancho Bernardo 24, 0 Mt. Carmel
The matchup between the Rancho Bernardo Broncos (6-2) and the Mt.Carmel Sundevils (5-3) brought us a very cagey affair on the night. The Broncos showed more hunger for the game beating the Sundevils by a score of 24-0 on the night.
The game started out well for the Broncos in the first quarter, scoring in the first five minutes. Tyree Range ran the ball 24 yards for yet another TD, proving his rushing prowess. Tucker Reed then found Devaughn Vele later on to tack on a second TD for the Broncos.
In the 2nd quarter, Kameron Calhoun was back to receive a punt, running the ball back 58 yards before fumbling at the 1-yard line. After being so close to glory, Calhoun redeemed himself with an interception just minutes later. The Sundevils struggled to find their stride going into the break at the half.
The 3rd quarter rolled in, Tyree Range picked the ball up yet again for the Broncos, but in the blink of an eye saw his season turn upside down. After being tackled, Range went down with an injury and never got up. He was wheeled off the pitch, injury reports are to come, but by the look of it his season has come to an end.
Broncos kicker, Sam Fenalson, made it 17-0 with an 18 yard FG a bit later. Kameron Calhoun put the nail in the coffin running the ball into the end zone from 8 yards. That play put the match to bed at 24-0.
The Sundevils lost the Rotary Cup to their county rivals in a shaky display. The Broncos on the other hand will certainly need to change their offensive focus having lost their star running back to injury.
