Rancho Bernardo apartment fire displaces family of three

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – An early-afternoon fire damaged a Rancho Bernardo apartment today, displacing a family of three.

The non-injury blaze erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 1:30 p.m. in a second-floor unit at a residential complex in the 17900 block of Caminito Pinero, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

It took crews about a half-hour to extinguish the flames.

The American Red Cross was called in to help the residents of the damaged apartment — two adults and a child — arrange for emergency shelter.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
