Rancho storage lot fire damages boat, 3 vehicles update

RANCHO SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A fire at a vehicle storage lot in the Rancho San Diego neighborhood this morning destroyed a motor boat roughly 15 feet long and damaged three other vehicles.

The fire was reported around 6:50 a.m. at a dirt lot at 1627 Jamacha Way when residents heard an explosion from across the street, San Miguel Fire Battalion Chief Andy Lawler said.

Firefighters responded to the scene and found the nearly 15-foot fiber glass motor boat ablaze, setting fire to the three vehicles next to it, Lawler said.

It took fire crews about 20 minutes using foam to stop the diesel fuel from burning, he said. The boat was destroyed and three vehicles including one SUV next to it sustained heavy damage.

HAZMAT crews were called in due to fuel spillage.

No injuries came from the incident.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
