Recap: Vincent Memorial 41 at Maranatha Christian 12
Friday September 26, 2014: The Vincent Memorial Scots (3-0) traveled two and a half hours to take on the Maranatha Christian Eagles (2-1) in a non-conference North County match-up. The Scots balanced attack was too much for the Eagles as they were able to keep their undefeated hopes alive in a 40-12 victory.
The Scots opened up the game with a 4th down conversion pass from Hector Robinson to Emiliano Garcia for a 37 yard completion, which led to a 3 yard touchdown run by Jose Monge and the two-point conversion was good to make it 8-0 Vincent Memorial. Maranatha Christian was able to bounce back with a 33 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Christian Cortes to Isaac Schwan but the extra-point was no good, 8-6 Vincent Memorial. However, Maranatha Christian was unable to stop the Scots ground impound as Fidel Ruiz gave Vincent Memorial some breathing room before half with a 51 yard touchdown run (two-point conversion no good), 14-6 Scots.
In the second half Vincent Memorial opened up the flood gates and poured on the points. Jose Monge was able to find his second score of the night with an interception returned for a touchdown (two-point conversion no good) to make it 20-6 Scots. The game was capped off by two more touchdown runs, one by Roberto Valadez in the third quarter and then by Fidel Ruiz in the fourth quarter. The Scots were able to make the long travel home with a smile on their faces as their record came to 4-0 on the season.
