Recent increase in crime in Mission Valley area
MISSION VALLEY (KUSI) — It’s one of those things the criminals simply didn’t consider.
When four kids ripped off two cell phones, they had no idea they were ripping off federal agents.
“They were two N.C.I.S. agents doing an interview outside Panera,” said Lt. Andra Brown with the San Diego Police.
“The suspects thought they were just stealing a couple of phones, they had no idea who they were stealing from,” Brown said.
It all went down around sunset on Wednesday at the Mission Valley Mall. “We caught two of the suspects, but two of them got away and we don’t have the phones yet,” Brown said.
The kids they caught are only 14 and 16 years old and attending a local high school. The kids that are missing are assumed to be the same age group and could still have the N.C.I.S. phones.
“It’s not the phones that are valuable, it’s the stuff inside that matters,” Brown said. “You can replace the phones or the laptops, you can not replace the valuable things inside.”
In this case, potentially sensitive material regarding major federal investigations.
A reminder to all, if federal agents are not safe, all of us could be the next target.
