‘Reduce Your Use’ program to be extended through Saturday

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – San Diego Gas & Electric will extend its “Reduce Your
Use” promotion into a third day Saturday because of more hot weather in the
forecast, the utility announced.

In the program, customers who cut back power usage between the peak
hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. receive 75 cents off their bill for every kilowatt
hour saved. The utility calculates a customer's power reduction by comparing it
to usage in five similar days in the past, according to Allison Zaragoza of
SDG&E.

One kilowatt hour in savings is roughly equivalent to getting a couple
of loads of laundry done earlier in the morning or waiting until evening,
Zaragoza said.

With high temperatures soaring into the 90s around most of San Diego
County, the utility implemented the program Thursday for the first time and
continued it today. The California Independent System Operator, which
coordinates the power grid, called a “Flex Alert” for today, which also asks
customers to save power. Cal-ISO indicated that no such declaration was likely
to come over the weekend.

Customers can sign up at sdge.com to be alerted when the company
declares a “Reduce Your Use” day.
