Relatives of killed San Diego man suing Los Angeles motorist
LOS ANGELES (KUSI) – Relatives of a San Diego man killed by an alleged drunken driver while standing on a Hollywood sidewalk in January are suing the motorist.
The plaintiffs in the wrongful death lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court are Haif B. Almotaire and Nwir Ayad, the parents of Yasir Haif Almotaire, as well as Faris Alanai and Abdullah Alnemary, who survived injuries they received from being struck by the same vehicle.
The suit names as the lone defendant the car’s driver, Bethany Anderson, who could not be immediately reached for comment. According to the complaint, Yasir Almotaire, Alanazi and Alnemary were standing on a sidewalk at Beverly Boulevard and Formosa Avenue about 2:35 a.m. Jan. 6. Anderson, driving east on Beverly while allegedly under the influence of alcohol, hit a parked car, lost control and crashed into the three pedestrians, the suit states.
Yasir Almotaire was pronounced dead at the scene and the other two were taken to a hospital with "multiple serious and permanent injuries,” according to the complaint. The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, as well as compensation for burial and funeral costs.
