Remembering Pete Frates through the Ice Bucket Challenge

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Today was a day to remember a young man who lost his life to a deadly form of muscular dystrophy known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or in medical terms, ALS.

Pete Frates, a former college baseball athlete, passed away from ALS this week at the age of 34.  His legacy involves bringing nationwide attention to research and funding for the disease by starting the Ice Bucket Challenge; which saw people pouring buckets of ice on themselves before donating and challenging others to do the same.
