Ocean Beach Pier drowning victim pronounced dead

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Sunday 4:50 p.m. – 46-year-old Cesar Ughetto was pronounced dead after resuscitation efforts failed to revive him. The victim went to dinner with friends and family in Ocean Beach Saturday evening before swimming in the ocean. The man disappeared shortly after going into the water, leading to a 9-1-1 call being placed to help locate and rescue him. 

CPR was initiated after he was pulled out from being submerged underwater. He was then transported to a hospital and placed on advanced cardiac life support while being transported. He was pronounced dead at 9:44 p.m. Saturday night.

Saturday 7:30 p.m. – San Diego Fire Department responded to a medical call at the Ocean Beach Pier Friday just after 6:00 p.m.

The incident is described by SDFD Capt. Joe Amador as being a near-drowning or drowning incident, with CPR being administered by responding fire officials.
