Retired sheriff’s sergeant arrested for child pornography

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 64-year-old retired sheriff's sergeant was free on
$100,000 bail Thursday following his arrest on suspicion of possessing more than
300 images of child pornography on his home computer in Spring Valley and
distributing the images online.

John Frederick Garner was arrested Friday at the home he shares with his
wife, according to U-T San Diego.

The images allegedly kept and sent by Garner depict boys and girls from
infancy to about 10 years old.

Garner joined the San Diego County Sheriff's Department in 1994 and
retired in 2010, with his last assignment being at the George Bailey Detention
Facility in Otay Mesa, U-T San Diego reported.

His arrest stems from the work of the San Diego Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force.

The group launched an investigation after receiving a report from
Microsoft that an email customer had uploaded child pornography images, task
force member and Chula Vista police Officer David Oyos told the newspaper. The
email address allegedly belonged to Garner.
