Rollover crash in Lakeside area downs power lines, leaves two injured

LAKESIDE (KUSI) — A crash in the Lakeside area downed power lines were Tuesday, sparked several small fires and left two drivers injured.

Both drivers were trapped inside their vehicle after they collided near Willows Road just after 6 a.m. One car overturned and came to rest on its roof, California Highway Patrol said. The other fell about 100 feet down an embankment.

Wildcat Canyon Road was closed in both directions between Willow and Founders Way, according to the county Department of Public Works.

Both drivers were taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to the CHP and the Lakeside Fire Protection District.

Power lines toppled as a result of the crash, sparking several spot fires, fire officials said.

About 193 were without power in the Barona area as of 8 a.m., according to San Diego Gas & Electric. It is not clear whether the outages were caused by the crash.
