Rough seas injure two sailors off coast
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Two sailors were injured aboard a Navy training vessel early Thursday when rough seas rocked their ship near San Clemente Island.
Military officials could not immediately confirm where the sailors were based.
The U.S. Coast Guard initially received a distress call from the boat around 2:30 a.m. but did not respond because a Navy vessel was dispatched, according to the Coast Guard’s public affairs office in San Diego.
Two of the six sailors aboard were treated for minor facial lacerations from a broken window, Coast Guard officials said.
A National Weather Service small craft advisory for the waters from San Mateo Point to the border, which included San Clemente Island, was in effect at the time.
Northwest winds of 15 to 20 knots with gusts to 30 knots are expected to cause choppy ocean conditions through early Friday.
