San Diego Blood Bank collecting donations for National Blood Donor Month

National Blood Donor Month has been observed in January since 1970 with the goal of increasing blood and platelet donations during winter – one of the most difficult times of year to collect enough blood products to meet patient needs. We’re just coming out of the holiday season, when we traditionally see a decrease in donations. High schools and colleges have been out of session for the holidays, thus not hosting blood drives; seasonal illnesses, like the flu, may cause some donors to become temporarily unable to donate. Throughout this month, SDBB will highlight individual blood donors who will share their stories about why they donate on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using hashtag #WhyIDonate. Make an appointment by calling 1-800-4-MY-SDBB or visiting
